Crochet Pumpkin Designs

As a crocheter, I’m always curious about peoples’ creative processes. What is it that drives an idea to be created? How do people come up with new ideas on a regular basis? So, allow me to tell you a story of how I came up with thisfree crochet pumpkin pattern.

It all started with the urge to make a medium-sized pumpkin, modified from my popularCrochet Apple Amigurumi Patternthat I shared previously. From the comments, some readers wrote in to ask if I have acrochet pumpkin patternthat they can make to pair with the crochet apple. For this reason, thefirst medium pumpkinof approximately 4″ in diameter was designed based on the same technique as the apple.

Immediately after the 4″ pumpkin was done, I felt like I needed to make a mini crochet pumpkin to accompany it, as it looked rather lonely. Thus, the small pumpkin crochet pattern of 3″ in diameter was created and produced.

After having a great time making the first two adorable crochet pumpkins, I can’t stop making more. Just like when I did my other amigurumi designs (click the link for the free crochet patterns), crochet amigurumi makes you creative when you get a hold of it. Voila! A large pumpkin amigurumi was “cultivated” in the same manner after that, and there goes another small yellow pumpkin, hahaha…

I could sit down for a whole day to crochet pumpkins of different sizes if I had the time. I could make so manycute little pumpkinsand place them in my garden to make a ‘pumpkin patch’. Maybe one day I will make this dream of mine come true. But for now, my amigurumi list grows faster than my hands can handle, which makes me want to grow more hands. Feel the same? Give me a shout if you feel me.

Is It Easy To Crochet A Pumpkin?

Who can make these crochet pumpkins? It might look like one needs years of crochet experience to make them, but it is actually a prettyeasy project. Beginners with basic crochet knowledge and some know-how in amigurumi are able to make it. Click the links to learn the tips if needed.

How long do I need to crochet them? It took me less than an hour each for the first 2 pumpkins and another hour for the large pumpkin, so the total time for a beginnerskill-levelcrocheter would be around 2 hours for 3 pumpkins.

Craft Supplies Needed For Crochet Pumpkin Pattern

In this amigurumi pumpkin crochet pattern, the 2 main yarn colors are orange and green, while yellow is an optional color. You may add other shades of orange and yellow to make a colorful pumpkin patch.

The yarn we are using is lightweight yarn, so DK / light-worsted / 8-ply are all in this category. Besides yarns, you will need a 2.5 mmcrochet hook and some polyester fiberfill to stuff the pumpkins. For the tools, you will need a stitch marker, a long tapestry needle, a fabric marker, pins, and scissors.

Can I Use Other Yarn Weights to Crochet?

By using the lightweight yarns and crocheting them with a 2.5 mm hook, these 3-sized crochet patterns of the pumpkin came out to be in 3″, 4″ and 5.5″ diameters. Don’t limit yourself to this yarn weight; explore different yarn weights with this free crochet pattern, and you may build a heap of interesting pumpkin patches in various sizes. For example, bulky weight yarnlike the DK medium yarn (or bulkier) with a 3.0 mm hook (or bigger) will result in a larger pumpkin, whereas using lighter baby yarn with asmaller hooksuch as a 2.0 mm hook will produce a smaller, cuter pumpkin.
