- Consider using a bleach cleaner to treat both the inner and outer surfaces of the pumpkin. Allow around five minutes for the solution to settle before wiping down the pumpkin’s exterior. This step can help with getting rid of surface-level bacteria and organisms, but it won’t get rid of everything.
- Another approach involves applying petroleum jelly to the cut sections. This creates a protective barrier against airborne oxygen so that the pumpkin will retain some of the flesh’s moisture.
