Crochet Valentine Hat Pattern - Repeat Crafter Me (2024)

Crochet Valentine Hat Pattern - Repeat Crafter Me (1)

Almost exactly 2years ago I made THIS VALENTINE’S HAT and gave it away on my blog in celebration of reaching 100Facebook fans… I can’t believe that today there are over 63,000 of you following my Repeat Crafter Me Facebook Page! WOW! This totally blows me away. Thank you for your support! I have had a lot of requests for this pattern and although I didn’t write it down when I first made it, I worked it up again came up a pattern I couldshare with you!

I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick Yarn for this hat. The red is Cranberry and the white is called Fisherman. It works up quickly and the bulky yarn makes it nice and thick, soft and snuggly. I think you could easily leave off the scalloped edge (replace it with another row of DC) and flower and this would be great for a boy as well.

Materials:

– Super Bulky Yarn like Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick

– Size J (6.00mm) Crochet Hook

– Large tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

SC = Single Crochet

HDC = Half Double Crochet

DC = Double Crochet

Note: If you want the hat even smaller, follow the 0-3 month pattern but stop increasing after round 3. Continue to DC in each stitch around until you have made 6 rows. The 7th row will be your scalloped edge.

Size: 0-3 Months

starting with red yarn…

Magic ring, chain 2, DC 10 in magic ring, join to first DC, ch 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each around, join, ch 2 (20 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC in first stitch, DC in next, around, join, ch 2. (30 DC)
Round 4: 2 DC in first stitch, DC in next four, join, ch 2 (36 DC)
Round 5-7: DC in each stitch around, join, ch 2 (36 DC) – change color to white for round 7

Now you are going to make the shell edge…

Round 8:Make 4 DC in the same stitch as your chain 2, skip 2 stitches, SC, skip 2 stitches, *make 5 DC’s all in one stitch, skip 2 stitches, SC, skip 2 stitches, repeat from * the rest of the way around. Note: Since you probably won’t endon an even amount of scallops, just fudge it 🙂 For instance, at the end of the 0-3month size, I skipped 2, added one more DC to my first scallop and joined to the first DC in that scallop.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Flower:

starting with red yarn…

Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 HDC in ring, join and change color to white.

Round 2: Chain 2, DC in same stitch as ch 2, DC in next stitch, Chain 2 and slip stitch in the same stitch as your last DC, *Chain 2, DC in next stitch, DC in next stitch, Chain 2 and slip stitch in the same stitch as your last DC. Repeat from * around. Fasten off leaving tail to sew onto hat, or weave in ends and add a clip to make it removable.

OR

You can make the flower in all white and then create a red circle for the middle and sew it on top. I like the cleaner look of this flower but you may prefer the method above. To make a circle, Magic ring, ch 1, make 10 SC in ring, join to first SC, fasten off and sew onto center of flower.
